Completely renovated by Glendale-based studio Osborn Architects to suit the actual needs of its inhabitants, the Meyerhofer Residence in La Cañada, California is a true MCM gem. Capturing bright sunlight through dark frames in a warm wood environment, the concept was based on a reinterpretation of the old, mid-century-inspired beloved house. Redesigned, the architects tackled the structure and its surrounding landscape, taking into account the neighboring houses and the views.
In the end, most of the 5,100 sq. ft. residence of Mark and Andrea Meyerhofer had been entirely built new around the DNA of the former structure. The structure’s final design—a mid-century-inspired composite of stone, glass, wood and steel—elegantly asserts itself while remaining sensitive to the view corridors of the adjacent properties.
